Dr. Greg Fonzo, Ph.D.
Advisory Committee
Dr. Fonzo is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and co-director of the Charmaine and Gordon McGill Center for Psychedelic Research and Therapy at Dell Medical School. Dr. Fonzo and his team are at the forefront of groundbreaking studies investigating psychedelic therapies in treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, and more.
His research focuses broadly on understanding mechanisms of affective disorder psychopathology and treatment and leveraging this understanding to improve clinical care and patient outcomes. His lab takes a multimodal approach to assessing disorder mechanisms and characteristics across diagnostic categories, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety disorders and depression.
Ongoing work primarily utilizes functional magnetic resonance imaging to assess brain function in-vivo and is increasingly focused on integrating computational modeling approaches to understand information processing dysfunction in psychiatric disorders. He is also heavily invested in utilizing existing treatment modalities (e.g., psychotherapy and medications) to identify neural mechanisms of therapeutic effects, which will then serve as starting points for the development of novel brain modulation approaches with transcranial focused ultrasound and transcranial magnetic stimulation.
